Last year, flexible packaging was the single vertical market that showed strong double digit growth in thermal transfer ribbons. That alone is a good enough reason to consider adding new ribbons to your product line! Here are a few things to consider before entering the in-line coding market:
- Learn the lingo
It’s not about barcodes. Think overprinting or imprinting. You will not see familiar brands like Zebra, Datamax, or Sato. Printers from Markem and Videojet rule in-line coding and look radically different than barcode printers. It makes sense to do a little research to get familiar with the new world. You can view a detailed web seminar on Inside IIMAK, a password protected section of the website exclusively for our customers. - Develop a Package Solution
Supply the both replacement print heads AND ribbons. Be a “one stop shop” for your customers. This will help you lock in the business. - Fish Where the Fish Are.
If you sell into the food industry or supply printed flexible packaging substrates, there is a good chance your current customers have high speed in-line coding printers installed, and are using near edge flexible packaging ribbons. You already have the relationship, all you have to do is ASK! Other applications where flexible packaging pouches are common include medical devices, pharmaceutical preparations, hardware, and even some retail.
IIMAK just developed a new Applications Identifier and Technology Comparison flyer to help you better understand what the primary applications are. It’s easier than going to the grocery store!!
An IIMAK account manager is available to help you launch this new line to your sales team and customers. We just introduced a unique new ribbon designed specifically for flexible packaging applications – NET Flex. We have a full range of thermal transfer ribbon configurations in stock and offer extensive tech support, including free print tests, phone support for printer adjustments, and on-site support to help close those big opportunities. Training and marketing collateral are other tools that will help you win new business.
So, are you ready to jump into this market with both feet? Are you excited or hesitant? We’d like to hear your thoughts?
